18th century Cashew nut print... with Varnish Tree. c1757

"A Leaf of the Varnish Tree from Nankin in China, raisd from seed by Mr. Webb & Mr. Miller which Father D'Incarville sent to the Royal Society about the Year 1751; & The Cashew Nut sitting on its Fleshy Fruit - 'Acajou' of Tournefort or 'Anacardiaum' by Linnaeus."

Published for the Records of the Phliosophical Transactions of the Royal Society in London in 1757, this is a rare original copperplate engraving by James Mynde who flourished as an engraver in London between 1736 and 1770 (with fine later hand-colour).

The engraving to its border measures 205 x 320mm (7 x 14.5 inches). Page size is 220 x 365 (8 5/8  x 14 3/8 inches). It is in fine condition, with two faint vertical folds that were necessary for inclusion in the size of this particularl publication.
