by Gould, John
John Gould Callocephalon Galeatum, Australian Gang Gang Cockatoo with the cute crest, tuft of feathers on its head.
Reproduction parrot print from an original John Gould's Birds of Australia hand-coloured lithograph by Henry Constantine Richter after the drawing by Gould. Originally published in London between 1840 and 1848.
Known as "the Bird Man" John Gould was a naturalist whose passion was the field ornithology. He combined his good eye for detail with business acumen, and with the assistance of his artist wife Elizabeth and other fine natural history lithographers illustrated the birds of the different regions of the world in large hand-coloured lithographs. By obtaining wealthy subscribers prior to each venture, John Gould was able to publish these superb illustrations in grand publications that have not been surpassed to this day.
