Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd. Art Publishers to Their Majesties the King and Queen and the H.R.H. the Prince of Wales. Raphael House. London.

This wonderful book is in relatively good condition with inevitable foxing marks throughout as a result of the choice of the porous paper used for the text pages. It is finely bound in red stippled leather with gilt embossed border line and embossed coat of arms and title "The King's Book", with marbled end papers.

It begins with a coloured photolithograph of the King's Broadcast Message to the Empire surrounded by coats of arms and names of all the countries in the British Empire at that date. Two black and white full length official Silver Jubilee photographic portraits of His Majesty King George V and Her Majesty Queen Mary follow, then A Sonnet for the King's Book by John Masefield, Poet Laureate. The main content is a tipped-in coloured photolithograph representing each of the countries and a 2-sided page of text describing each country, its population, its terrain, industries and assets. Concluding with another coloured photolithograph of a steamship surrounded by a decorative border of compass readings and other maritime paraphenalia, the Epilogue to the King's Book by John Drinkwater summarizes the Britons building their collective Empire while travelling "all quarters of the earth"...

This book measures 315 x 245mm (approx. 12.5 x 9.75 inches)
