Having been at risk of closing prior to inclusion of engraved illlustrations of newsworthy information from around the world, The Illustrated London News was published weekly from 1842, and its engraved images of events and discoveries from around the world ensured its popularity, and resulted in the tradition of collecting engravings - and often colouring them for further enjoyment.
