Court of Common Pleas judge, Creswell Levinz Knight (1627-1701). "Late one of the Judges of the Court of Comon Pleas".
Fine original antique engraving by Robert White (1645-1704) after the painting by Gottfried Kneller (1646-1723). Robert White was an eminent 17th century line-engraver, and Kneller was well known for his portraits of prominent personages.
This portrait is beautifully presented within a ribbon-decorated oval, above a plinth with the coat of arms of Sir Creswell Levinz. Published in London c1793 with fine later hand-colour. Original copperplate engraved portrait of an important 18th century English judge in red gown - grandly embellished by decorative borders and vignette with coat of arms and mottoes below, Published in London by T. Cadell circa 1793 for William Blackstone’s Commentaries of the Laws of England, the improvement of which have distinguished the reign of Her Majesty’s Most Royal Consort.
