Decorative Tallis Naval Portrait. Viscount Duncan with ship.

Original steel engraving c.1856 by the Tallis publishing house who were highly regarded for their exquisitely engraved, finely embellished illustrations. In 1853 John Tallis set up The London Printing and Publishing Company in partnership with Emphraim Tipton Brain publication. Tallis were the last publishing company to produce decoratively framed illustrations, as it was slow specialized work that became unaffordable. Tallis decorative antique maps and prints are still collected today for their intricately engraved decorative borders.

Engravings were published uncoloured. The hand-colour has been added at a later date, but certainly highlights the subject for greater enjoyment.
