Littelton on Tenures (or Treatise on Tenures) was the first important English legal text that was neither written in Latin nor significantly influenced by Roman (civil) law.  Sir Thomas Littelton (1647-1709), 3rd Baronet, of Nnorth Ockendon, Essex and Stoke St Milborough, Shropshire, was an English lawyer and Whig politician who sat in the English and British House of Commons between 1689 and 1709.

Original copperplate engraved portrait of an important 18th century English judge in red gown - grandly embellished by decorative borders and vignette with coat of arms and mottoes below, engraved c1792 by T.Trotter after the Original Picture in the Inner Temple Hall in London. Published in London by T. Cadell circa 1792 for William Blackstone’s Commentaries of the Laws of England, the improvement of which have distinguished the reign of Her Majesty’s Most Royal Consort.
