Antique print of French Prince Eugene Rose de Beauharnais... Arch-Chancellor of State, etc. - also Hereditary Grand Duke of Frankfurt and 1st Prince of Eichstatt, (1780-1824), was the first child and only son of Viscount de Beauharnais and Josephine Tascher de la Pagerie, future wife of French Emperor, Napoleon I. Eugene was adopted by Napoleon after the death of his father in the revolution, but he did not become Napoleon's heir.
Small antique engraving from a drawing by Louis LaFitte for Les Fastes de la Nation Françaises (The Annals of the French Nation), to perpetuate the great military achievements and civic feats of bravery, published in Paris between 1804 and 1816 by Monsieur Ternisien d’Haudricourt.
The Legion of Honour, a military and civil order of merit, was the highest award of the French republic, created by Napoleon to honour war service and extraordinary military bravery and service in times of war. The award of the Legion of Honour automatically carried with it the Croix de Guerre (Military Cross), the highest French military medal.
With later fine hand-colourm this engraving has descriptive French below the engraving. Full page size is 11 x 8 inches (28 x 20 cm). Engraving measures 4 x 5.5 inches (10 x 14 cm). As usual, this page has slight soiling - as is to be expected when over 200 years old.
