French Prince Eugene Rose de Beauharnais (1781-1824): S.A.I. Napoleon, Vice-Roi d'Italie, Prince de Venice, Archi. Chancelier d'Etat &c. (also Hereditary Grand Duke of Frankfurt and 1st Prince of Eichstatt), was the first child and only son of Viscount de Beauharnais and Josephine Tascher de la Pagerie, future wife of French Emperor Napoleon I. He became stepson and adopted child of Napoleon after the death of his father in the revolution, but he did not become Napoleon's heir.

The Legion of Honour, a military and civil order of merit, was the premier order of the French republic, created by Napoleon to honour for war services, and extraordinary military bravery and service in times of war. The award of the Legion of Honour automatically carried with it the Croix de Guerre (Military Cross), the highest French military medal.
