Tahiti. A Dance of Otaheite. Antique Print c1784
by Unknown
An Exact Representation of A DANCE in OTAHEITE.
Wonderful original copperplate engraving by Noble after the drawing by the Admiralty-appointed official artist on the voyage of Captain Cook, John Webber (1751-1793). This engraving is part of a series of 78 plates, based on Webber's drawings to include indigenous people, artifacts and views, in Hawkesworth’s “Complete History of Captain Cook's First, Second and Third Voyages” published in London circa 1780 by Alexander Hogg.
Page measures 230 x 380mm (9 x 15 inches). There is slight damage to the extremities of the page, with small remnants of early cellotape repairs and reinforcement. Otherwise this wonderful engraving is in good condition with borders as published.
