Man of Sta. Christina. Woman of Sta. Christina. This is one of a series of engravings of pairs of head-studies of the natives sketched during Captain Cook's voyages.

Wonderful original copperplate engraving for the publication of the voyages of Captain Cook. This engraving was for the larger edition published in London by Alexander Hogg circa 1784 as A new, authentic, and complete collection of voyages round the world, undertaken by order of His present Majesty, for making new discoveries in geography, navigation, astronomy, &c. in the Southern and Northern Hemispheres, &c., &c., &c.

This engraved page has good wide borders all round. Page measures 235 x 385mm (9.25 x 15 inches). Narrow border at top and wide borders each side. Tiny cellotape reinforcement of corners. There is slight page-extremity age-discolouration, but overall a very good engraving.
