Antique print of Australian Aborigines in "dugout" canoe, greeting ships in the north of Australia.

Original steel engraving drawn and engraved circa 1874 for "Australia, Illustrated" by Thomas Baines, an inveterate traveller who joined Augustus Gregory as official artist and storekeeper, in the expedition across northern Australia between 1855–1857 sponsored by the Royal Geographical Society to evaluate the northern area of Australia for suitability as a colonial settlement. The Baines River was named after him.
