Costumes de Patineuses. French Skating Fashions. Antique print c1880.

by La Mode Illustrée

Beautiful ladies in cumbersome heavily embroidered skating outfits designed by Madame Fladry of rue Richer, 43 in Paris.

Original wood engraving from a late 19th century French fashion magazine (with fine late hand-colour). Fashion periodicals reached their pinnacle in the late 19th century, when the most skilled engraving on wood was achieved for wide circulation of interesting illustrations. The facial expressions and mishaps of young lads, and the sleds and footwear of the period are fascinating. There is text about fashion on the reverse - as is to be expected in La Mode Illustrée which was one of the premier fashion periocals of the time.

The engraving measures 200 x 235mm (8 x 9 1/2 inches). This lovely engraving has been mounted between antique white ragmat conservation board, and covered for protection until framed. External measurement for framing is 325 x 352mm (12 5/8 x 14 inches).
