Small antique print of Herculaneum fresco excavated c1757.

Small copperplate engraved mezzotint engraved by Aloja from a drawing by Niccolo Vanni for the most important archaeological work of the 18th century - the recording of the discoveries at Pompeii, Ercolano (Herculaneum) and Stabiae (Campania), the region that had been covered since the eruption of Mt Vesusius late in AD79.

This lovely engraving has a tiny repair patch at back. Paper size is 195 x 210mm (7 5/8 x  8 1/4 inches). To plate impression measures 140 x 155mm (5 1/2 x 6 1/8 inches).
