Original aquatint engraving circa 1800 by Pierre-François Hugues d’Hancarville (1719-1805), for the grand 1766-1776 catalogue of ancient Etruscan, Greek and Roman Antiquities of Sir William Hamilton (1730-1803), Ambassador of Great Britain to the Kingdom of Naples. William Hamilton took an active part in the excavations of Herculaneum, Pompeii and Stabea, employing many young local boys as 'runners' to assist in his quest.

This large copperplate engraving has slight foxing and a few almost imperceptible bends in the paper. Priced accordingly.
