18th century engraving of Tissot's French commemorative medallions.

Original copperplate engraving by √Čtienne Louis Crepy (c1700-1759) of medallions in honour of French playwright and poet, Jean-Baptiste Rousseau (1671-1741), and French author, Bernard le Bovier de Fontenelle (1657-1757) who demystified science for the public. Published in Paris by Tissot circa 1775 (with fine later colour). With both heads and obverse sides - which deoppict Baroque images of the gods and graces, and musical instruments and costumes.

Soft, faded colouring to the coins highlights and compliments the subjects of the heads and obverse sides.

Size to intaglio impression is 195 x 160mm (7.75 x 6.25 inches). Page size is 305 x 210mm (12 x 8.25 inches).
