Beribboned medallions: Laurels, Musical Instruments. Louis Crepy c1775

by Étienne-Louis Crépy

French medallions commemorating Alexandre Lainez and Philippe Quinault.

Original stipple and line copperplate engraving by Étienne-Louis Crépy (c.1700-1759), of poet Alexandre Lainez (1650-1710) and dramatist-poet-librettist Philippe Quinault (1635-1688) who wrote "perfect songs", for a series of heads and obverse medallions - in this case, linked by ribbons. Published in Paris on hand-laid paper by Tissot circa 1775, with later soft, faded hand-colour which certainly adds to their appeal.

Size to intaglio impression is 195 x 160mm (7.75 x 6.25 inches). Page size is 305 x 210mm (12 x 8.25 inches).
