Half-framed Pollack Avocado lithograph by Ellen Schutt c1912

by Schutt-Blackburn, Ellen Isham

Half Avocado antique print, half-framed in antique-white ragmat.

Original colour-printed lithograph by Ellen Isham Schutt-Blackburn (1873-1955), published in New York in 1912 for the Yearbook of the United States Department of Agriculture. E.I. Schutt was an artist for the Division of Pomology from 1904 to 1914.

Between 1897 and 1925 before the widespread use of photography, artists were employed to create watercolours and lithographs of fruit and vegetables that were growing in the United States. Yearbooks were published with charming illustrations to promote their cultivation. As there was not a large number published they are rarely seen today.

225 x 145mm (8 7/8 x 5 3/4 inches), this print has damage down left side. Price is reduced, even though it doesn't show now it is mounted with antique-white conservation ragmat (similar in style to 'Half-framed Crocker Pear' above), and is covered with cellophane for presentation and protection until framed. External mount size for frame is 340 x 255mm (13 1/2 x 10 1/8 inches).
