Half-framed Banana Apple and halved apple. Ellen Schutt c1913.

by Schutt-Blackburn, Ellen Isham

Banana Apple antique print. Small original lithograph c1913.

Original colour-printed lithograph by Ellen Isham Schutt-Blackburn (1873-1955), published in New York in 1913 for The United States Department of Agriculture Yearbook. E.I. Schutt was an artist for the Division of Pomology from 1904 to 1914.

Between 1897 and 1925 The Department of Agriculture in the U.S. published Yearbooks of fruit being grown there. Artists were employed to do watercolours and lithographs for illustrations. As they were published essentially to promote the growing of fruit in the United States, there was not an enormous circulation, so these beautiful illustrations are rarely seen today.

In fine condition, measuring 23 x 14cm (9 x 5.5 inches). It is half-framed with antique-white conservation ragmat, and covered with cellophane for presentation and protection - like "Champion Peach", above. External measurement is 340 x 255mm (13 3/8 x 10 inches). (Scanning through cellophane produces reflection, but please email if you would like a scan.)
