Half-framed Crocker Pear antique print by Passmore c1905

by Passmore, Deborah Grisscom

Pear fruit beautiful antique lithograph by Deborah Passmore.

Wonderful original colour-printed lithograph by botanical artist Deborah Grisscom Passmore (1840-1911), printed in New York in 1905 for the Yearbook of the United States Department of Agriculture. D.G. Passmore received a strict Quaker education prior to moving from Delaware to study at the School of Design and Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. She was a fine scientific botanical artist who worked in the U.S.A. Division of Pomology for 19 years.

Between 1897 and 1925 part of the annual reports of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture were Yearbooks, published with beautiful illustrations to promote the cultivation of food crops in the United States. These included a series of seven monographs on hardy fruits with lithographic illustrations from the watercolours by staff artists. As the there was not an enormous circulation, these beautiful illustrations are rarely seen today.

Image size is 23 x 14cm (9 x 5.5 inches). In fine condition, this lithograph has been mounted between antique-white conservation ragmat, and covered with cellophane for presentation and protection until framed. External measurement for frame window is 35 x 27cm (13 3/4 x 10 5/8 inches) - too large for scanner, so have taken one corner to show full width of mount.
