Keulemans Yellow-throated Whistler, Myiolestes Macrorhynchus. Hand-coloured lithograph c1875
by Keulemans, John Gerrard
Myiolestes Macrorhynchus, now Pachycephala macrorhynchus, Yellow-throated Whistler lithograph.
Original hand-coloured lithograph by eminent Dutch bird illustrator John Gerrard Keulemans (1842-1912) for George Dawson Rowley's Ornithological Miscellany published in London between 1875 and 1878. J.G. Keulemans usually signed his lithographic plates JGK.
Keulemans' skill in the art of lithography is evident in his hand-coloured lithographs for this rare series. In 1869 fellow ornithologist and colleague of John Gould, Richard Bowdler-Sharp persuaded the well-travelled Dutchman JG Keulemans to move from Brussels to London, which had become the most important centre for publications illustrating birds.
A beautiful lithograph in fine condition except for tiny spots below the image. Page size is 315 x 240mm (12 3/8 x 9 1/2 inches).
