by Jones, Inigo

Inigo Jones, the father of classical English architecture.

Inigo Jones (1573-1652) was the first to introduce classical Italian Renaissance architecture to Gothic Britain. His designs were elegant simplicity in comparison with the previous heavy Tudor architectural design. Jones believed strict mathematical proportion should control plan, elevation and all structure.

The digital image does not do justice to this exquisite work. This engraving has beautiful later hand-colour, and was printed on thick hand-wove paper. There is some imperfections of the page including soiling and a piece of conservation tape at the base - hence the reduced price.

Page size is 345 x 505mm (approximately 13 1/2 x 20 inches). Size to plate mark is 250 x 380 mm (10 x 14 7/8 inches).
