Original colour-printed lithograph by London-based French natural history illustrator, The Reverend Pierre Jacques Smit (1863-1960), published circa 1894 by Frederick Warne and Company of London & New York for The Royal Natural History by Richard Lydekker B.A., F.G.S., F.Z.S., Etc. (sic.).

Based on Brehm's Tierleben (Life of Animals), a zoological encyclopedia Illustrirtes Tierleben by Alfred Edmund Brehm (1829-1884). It was first published in Leipzig between 1864 and 1869 and was republished in Austria circa 1896.
