Original hand-coloured copperplate engraving after the drawing by Jean-Gabriel Pretre for Zoology Professor at the Paris Natural History Mueum, Bernard Germain Etienne de la Ville sur Illon, Comte de Lacepede (1756-1825). Lacepede’s Natural History of Quadrupeds was published in Paris in 1838.

This page has the usual fine spotting and soililng, and there is a horizontal crease at top of page (which should not intrude when framed). The price has been considerably reduced therefore. Page measures approximately 25 x 16 cm (9 3/4 x 6 1/4 inches). The finely engraved portraits and title measure approximately 18 x 12 cm (7 x 4 3/4 inches).
