by Keulemans, John Gerrard
Antique print of a Wild Cat lithograph by JGK c1896.
A colour-printed lithograph by eminent natural history draughtsman and lithographer, John Gerrard Keulemans (1842-1912). This lovely little Wild Cat lithograph was published in London circa 1896 by Wyman & Sons Limited for Lloyd’s Natural History.
J.G. Keulemans signed all his work JGK. Keulemans moved from Netherlands to London when Richard Bowdler Sharpe, keeper of birds at what is now the Natural History Museum, commissioned him to illustrate his Monograph of the Alcedinidae, or Family of Kingfishers. Keulemans worked in London from 1870 to 1910, during the most important period of illustrated natural history books. His earlier hand-coloured lithographs of birds in particular are spectacularly fine.
Page size is 120 x 183mm (5.75 x 7.25 inches).
