NUOVE SCOPERTE Fatte nel 1765.67.e 69 nel MARE DEL SUD. (New Discovery Made in 1765, 67 and 69 in the Southern Seas). A fine original antique map of Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, and the South Pacific. This is one of the earliest maps to show Cook's discovery of the east coast of Australia and much of the coast of New Zealand.

Copperplate engraving by G. Zuliani after G.V. Pasquali, with distinctive contemporary hand-colour of Zatta maps, published circa 1776 in Venice for “Atlante novissimo” by cartographer and publisher Antonio Zatta, who flourished as a mapmaker between 1775 and 1797. Published just three years after the official English account of Cook's first voyage around the world in the Endeavour, Zatta shows the names given during Cook's navigation of these coastlines, and shows Cook's Endeavour in the cartouche illustration.
