Original map with wonderful geographical and historical detail by eminent German cartographer Augustus Heinrich Petermann (1822-1878), with much information from English geographer, Arrowsmith. Petermann worked as a cartographer for some years in London, and shared his knowledge with a number of British mapmakers.

Antique Map engraved on steel by H. Alt and Schroder and published in Gotha by Johann Georg Justus Perthes c1879 with contemporary hand-coloured outlining of country, states & explorer routes) for Adolf Stieler's Hand Atlas.
