India No.8. Original map printed in colour, published in London circa 1883 by Letts, Son & Co. Limited. Railways, Forests, Telegraph Lines, Canals, and Lighthouses are shown.

 British Territory, full tinted. Bengal (Lieutenant-Governor) is colour-printed in pink. Assam (Chief Commissioner) coloured in grey. Tributary States are encircled with the colour of the province to which they belong. French Possession (Chandernagore) is outlined in blue. Boundaries of Districts are surrounded with pink line.

Thomas Letts took over the family-owned publishing company in 1835, and was joined by his son Charles in 1870, when they raised capital and set up Letts, Son & Co. and began to print atlases as well. When this Company was liquidated in 1885, the atlas plates were sold to Mason and Payne who produced the same style of atlas in 1887.

Paper is slightly age-discoloured, but the map is in good condition. Page measures 355 x 415mm (14 x 16 3/8 inches). The page is complete, with wide margins around the border, as issued.
