Et d'Une. (And I got one.) Men's Shooting Fashion c1922

by Gazette du Bon Ton

Costume de chasse, de Kriegck. Hunting outfit by Kriegck.

Original pochoir fashion plate published in Paris circa 1922 for La Gazette du Bon Ton to illustrate the latest fashion for men - shown in an appropriate situation. The finest fashion artists illustrated fashions by prominent French designers, for Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style) for which only the wealthy could afford the annual subscription of 100 francs (400 US dollars). Published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925 (with a break during World War I), La Gazette du Bon Ton was distributed to major fashion capitals around the world by Condé Nast (and distributed in the United States as Gazette du Bon Genre because of a copyright clash with an established clothing company). Both titles translate roughly as Journal of the Good Style.

Pochoir (French for stencil), was a labour-intensive process with up to 20 separate stencils cut for for each colour to be applied with specific brushes and tools for consistency in the production of the detail of the fabrics and background, and the depth of colour tone.

Size of page 24 x 19cm or 9.5 x 7.5 inches.
