Fine original steel engraving by James Tingle after the sketch by Samuel Thomas (S.T.) Gill (1818-1880) for Victoria Illustrated published Melbourne circa 1857. At 21, Gill migrated from London to South Australia. He tried his luck on the goldfields but had more success with his character studies of life on the goldfields. He then moved to Victoria to pursue his painting and drawing of colonial life in Australia.

This engraving is slightly soiled around the edges, with faint ink 38 written at top right. The price has been reduced accordingly. Page size is the full published size of 21 x 28cm (8 x11 inches).
