by The Illustrated London News

BRISBANE, Capital of Queensland, Australia. Superb rare engraving.

The earliest panorama of Brisbane, printed in two sections on one plate, with “..a” top right and lower left, indicating the view is continuous, as indicated. (This wonderful scene can be cut and joined for framing.)

This rare early panoramic view was from The Observatory in Wickham Terrace, with the wetland in the foreground (now Central Railway Station), and to the right (Roma Street Station). Showing the site of the reservoir which provided water to the early colony, it is no wonder the City Hall has had trouble with its foundations...

Original wood engraving panorama published in London for “The Illustrated London News” on April 21, 1866 (later fine hand-colour). The descriptive text is on the reverse of this engraving.

Page size approximately 275 x 400mm (10.7/8 x 15.3/4inches). engraved area with title measures 245 x 360mm (9.3/4 x 14.1/4 inches)
