The Mirror or a Passing Glance. Marty pochoir for Gazette du Bon Ton c1922.
Manteau du Soir, de Paul Poiret. Evening Coat designed by Paul Poiret.

This clever illustration of front and back of this beautiful fashion design by Paul Poiret is mounted between antique white ragmat boards and beautifully framed in a gorgeous gilt-edged magogany-veneered frame.

Beautiful original French fashion pochoir circa 1922 by Andre-Edouard Marty (1882-1974) for La Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style). From 1912 to 1925 the premier fashion illustrators introduced the latest styles by French couturiers. This illustrates a stunning coat designed by Paul Poiret and introduced to the public in this exclusive periodical. Marty was one of the four regular contributors. His elegant composition shows the latest fashion within an imaginative fashion narrative.

The portrayal of fashion by the pochoir method was perfected in France by the illustrators of this fine fashion journal, and pochoir (French for stencil), has been used worldwide ever since to describe the labour-intensive process of cutting a separate stencil for each careful successive hand-application of colour for consistent depth of colour and detail of illustration.

Size of pochoir page: 24 x 19cm (9.5 x 7.5 inches). External measurement of frame is 415 x 360mm. Please request picture of framed image. There may be addiitional cost, depending on shipment charge.
