French Advertisement. Mappin & Webb, Bijouterie - Orfevrerie c1920

by Gazette du Bon Ton

Antique print. Lady carrying Mappin and Webb silver tea service on a tray - which I'm sure would be too heavy for her...
Advertising their outlets in London, Biarritz, Nice and Monte Carlo.

La Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style) was an exclusive publication in Paris between 1912 and 1925 (with a break during World War I when the editor and many of the artists were called up for military service). The main purpose of this small French periodical was to introduce the latest fine fashions and provide a little light news on what were the 'in' things to be seen doing or attending - sport, theatre... This artist of this avertisement has followed the tone of the magazine - which no doubt appealed to the ladies who were ordering such a lovely tea service.

The reverse of this advertisement is one for Barclay Tailor men's wear shop at 18 & 20 Avenue de l'Opéra in Paris.
