Doncaster. Heraldry antique engraving on hand-laid paper c1790.

by Catton, Charles/Chesham

Doncaster coat of arms between two ladies antique print c1790.

Original copperplate engraving by draughtsman, etcher, line and aquatint engraver Francis Chesham (1749-1806) from a drawing by Charles Catton (1756-1819) for The English Peerage. Printed on hand-made paper and published in London circa 1790, this small engraving has fine later hand-colour which certainly adds to its appeal.

This series of coats of arms was published two to a page, one above the other, so this small engraving has been mounted between antique-white ragmat conservation board, and cellophaned for protection until framed.
Image within window measures 110 mm x 175 mm (4.25 x 7 inches). External mount for frame window is 240 x 305 mm (9 1/2 x 12 inches). (Approximate - please ask for exact measurements.)
