Inexpensive Tallis map of Australia in mid-19th century.

Reproduction from a steel-engraved map drawn and engraved by John Rapkin; with finely-engraved border and vignettes of Natives of the Tribe of Bogan, Sydney, Kangaroos, Natives of Australia Felix, and Australian Parrots and Cockatoo drawn by J. Marchant and engraved by J.B. Allen for publication by The London Printing and Publishing Company partnership of John Tallis and Ephraim Tipton Brain.

The publishing firm of Tallis flourished from 1835 to 1860, and were renowned for their finely engraved maps with up-to-date information - which were among the last decorative maps to be published. Each subject was surrounded by a decorative border and small engraved views of related subjects.
