Brisbane in 1885. Split-view panorama from the Observatory.c1885.

by Flynn, J.H.

Large Brisbane view by J.H. Flynn in 1885.

Heritage Editions reproduction from the engraving for the Supplement to the Illustrated Sydney News and New South Wales Agriculturalist and Grazier published in Sydney in 1885. This fine print is as originally published, in two sections one above the other to facilitate the printing process. Brisbane is viewed from the Observatory on Wickham Terrace above Ann Street and central Brisbane with the river beyond.

This rustic-coloured panorama of early Brisbane looks very good with the pair of oval views of the earliest Brisbane Bridge, and Brisbane Kangaroo Point Ferry Terminal at the lower end of Edward Street. They were published at the same time, and are of similar colour and style of engraving.

Paper size 48 x 52cm (19.75 x 20.5 inches). Measurement from top to bottom of image sections is 35.5 x 46cm (14 x 18 inches).
