50%-off 4 x Heritage Editions Flower Ladies prints
by Grandville, Jean-Jacques
Four charming flower ladies with insects and animals. Good quality Heritage Editions reproduction prints.
Reproduction prints from 19th century colour-printed wood engravings by Charles Geoffroy (1819-1882), from the drawings by illustrator-caricaturist Jean-Ignace-Isidore Gérard (1803-1847) for Les Fleurs Animées (Animated Flowers) originally published in Paris in 1847. Gérard was known as Grandville, a name he adopted from his father’s actor parents, who used Gérard de Grandville as their stage name. This pensive study is one of the more charming of Grandville’s personifications of flowers, which were so popular that they were reissued over a period of 50 years, in Belgium, Germany, Spain, and America.
Flower Ladies: LILAC with Beetle, NARCISSUS with dragonfly & salamander (newt), CORNFLOWER & POPPY with cicada orchestra, and ROSE Queen with her beetle subjects.
