50%-off 4 x Heritage Editions Filippo Arena Flowers
by Arena, Filippo
Four classical botanical reproductions from 18th century engravings.
Reproduction from a hand-coloured copperplate engraving by P.M. Camareri for La Natura e Coltura de Fiori Fisicamente Esposta (The Nature and Cultivation of Flowers Physically Displayed) a beautiful horticultural catalogue published in Palermo, Sicily by Filippo Arena, circa 1767-8. Arena’s dramatic compositions of colours and flowers for a horticultural catalogue were unprecedented. Arena emulated earlier botanists such as DeBry, Sweertius and Besler who in the 17th century had given flowers and plants a dramatic textured look.
