Filippo Arena Tab 43 Botanical Print Nasturtium & Nerium (Oleander)

Reproduced to cater for the growing demand in decorative botanical works, this image (one of a set of four published in 1982) is from a copperplate engraving originally published in Palermo, Italy circa 1768 by Filippo Arena. The sculptural definition of each flower by Mario Camareri compliments well Arena's dramatic composition of flowers. Arena emulated earlier botanists such as DeBry, Sweertius and Besler who had given flowers and plants a dramatic textured look.
