Curtis Mauve Flag Iris. Pale Flag Iris Pallida print.
by Curtis, William
Heritage Editions pale purple flag Iris, Iris pallida print from Curtis original.
A lovely reproduction print taken nical specimens were from a series of beautiful hand-coloured copperplate engravings for The Botanical Magazine; or Flower Garden Displayed, begun by William Curtis in 1787 to illustrate plants from around the world as the specimens were received and cultivated in England.
One of a series of 12 elegant botanical specimen reproductions, printed larger than the original engravings. In the 18th century the original image was hand-coloured with natural ochres which do not fade with the passing of time. As with all artwork, we recommend framing with ultraviolet-protection glass to prevent fading of modern printing inks.
