Heritage Editions reproduction decorative Tallis map of Australia.

Originally drawn and engraved by John Rapkin, with finely-engraved border, and vignettes of Natives of the Tribe of Bogan, Sydney, Kangaroos, Natives of Australia Felix, and Australian Parrots and Cockatoo, drawn by J. Marchant and engraved by J.B. Allen for publication by The London Printing and Publishing Company (partnership of John Tallis and Ephraim Tipton Brain). First published by John Tallis and Company circa 1850.

The publishing firm of Tallis flourished from 1835 to 1860, and were renowned for their fine steel-engraved maps and prints. Tallis maps were among the last decorative maps published. Tallis and Company gained renown for their finely engraved publications with their principal subject adorned by decorative borders and small views (vignettes) of subjects related to the central illustration. This map is black and white. The decorative vignettes around the map may be hand-tinted with watercolour if desired.
