In Roman mythology Jupiter (also called Jove) is king of all the gods. In Greek mythology he is called Zeus. Originally a sky deity associated with rain, thunder, lightning and agriculture, he became the supreme god, prime protector of the state, concerned with all aspects of life and justice in the world. Jupiter was the son of Saturn and Ops and the brother and husband of Juno.

This reproduction was printed from a finely detailed copperplate engraving. Each of the the twelve panels depict symbols of an ancient mythical god who was believed to be the protector of the month. Originally published in Paris circa 1750.
