Brisbane oval view: Brisbane Bridge (first Victoria Bridge)

Brisbane oval view: Brisbane Bridge (first Victoria Bridge)

by Flynn, J.H.

First Brisbane bridge. One of pair of very early Brisbane views. With North Quay in the foreground, looking up the river towards Coronation Drive, the first wooden bridge from the end of Queen Street to South Brisbane - showing the bridge partially washed away.

Reproduction from a hand-coloured wood engraving by Cullis after the sketch by J.H. Flynn, for the “Supplement to the Illustrated Sydney News and New South Wales Agriculturist and Grazier” published in Sydney circa 1885.

This view and its pair, "Kangaroo Point Ferry" look good with "Brisbane, Queensland" (panorama of Brisbane, circa 1885, looking down from the Observatory in Wickham Terrace).
