Brisbane, Queensland, Limited Edition panorama from Observatory c1885

by Flynn, J.H.

Fine Brisbane panorama c.1885, Limited Edition print.

Heritage Editions reproduction from a hand-coloured wood engraving of an early panorama from the Observatory on Wickham Terrace, looking down over Ann Street and central Brisbane within the sweep of the Brisbane River. After a sketch by J.H. Flynn for the Supplement to the Illustrated Sydney News and New South Wales Agriculturalist and Grazier published in Sydney circa 1885.

Originally published in two sections (as in next item), with one section above the other, to facilitate the printing process of the day, this long panorama in rustic colour, is a fine print and one of a Limited Edition of 500. This wonderful view of early Brisbane looks good with the pair of oval views of the same date: Brisbane Bridge (crossing the river from Queen Street to South Brisbane) and Kangaroo Point Ferry (terminal at the end of Edward Street near the Botanic Gardens).
