Australian Banksia Praemorsa. Banksia illustration by Henry Andrews

by Andrews, Henry

Heritage Editions Banksia Praemorsa (or Cut-leaf Banksia) reproduction print from a hand-coloured copperplate engraving by the English naturalist Henry Andrews for “The Botanist’s Repository, comprising colour’d engravings of new and rare plants only” published in London between 1797 and 1815.

Andrews drew, engraved and coloured 664 botanical specimens for this ground-breaking work. Most of the illustrated botanical specimens were quite different from any previously seen in Britain. They included many species from Australia and South Africa which were quite unlike flowers that had been seen in the cooler climates of the northern hemisphere. This is from a lovely series of Heritage Editions reproduction Banksia prints.

As with all artwork (and in particular modern prints that have been printed in inks) we recommend conservation framing and U/V glass to block ultraviolet rays, preserve the quality of your artwork and prevent fading. (Framing might cost a little more but will remain in pristine condition.)
