Reproduction from a copperplate engraving by Louis de Chastillon, one of the King's engravers, from the drawings by Antoine Desgodetz (1653-1728) for Les Edifices Antiques de Rome designe et mesures tres exactement (Antique Structures of Rome drawn and measured very exactly), an officially commissioned collection of drawings showing the structural details on some of the famous buildings in Rome, for the information and use of French artists and architects who had not had the benefit of travel. Originally published in Paris circa 1682.
