Small Carnations print. Caryophilus botanical image.

Small Carnations print. Caryophilus botanical image.

Fine small reproduction print of Carnations or Pinks.

This is a lovely little image of crimson, pink and white carnations or 'pinks' from the hand-coloured copperplate engraving by the Van de Passe brothers whose work formed an elegant and important anthology of the flowers to be found each season in a cultivated Dutch garden in the 17th century.

This lovely reproduction print is from a hand-coloured engraving  by Crispyn van de Passe the Younger, for Hortus Floridus (Flowers from an Enclosed Garden) which was published in the Netherlands in 1614 and in England in 1615. Crispyn was relatively young, and was noted for the personality he imbued in his botanical studies, by adding small animals and insects within the compositions.

Print size: 22 x 30cm (8.5 x 11.75 inches).
