R.D. Fitzgerald’s Australian Chiloglottis Orchids, with wonderful dissections of flowers.

Rare reproduction from a hand-coloured lithograph “from Nature and on Stone by RD Fitzgerald F.L.S.", the eminent botanist Robert David Fitzgerald, O.B.E., F.I.S.A. (1830-1892) for “Orchids of Australia”, originally Printed at the Surveyor General's Office in Sydney, N.S.W. between 1875 and 1894. It is one of the few that were both drawn and lithographed by Fitzgerald himself.

The delicacy of the lithographic process is exquisitely shown with some of the flower and foliage left uncoloured. The print is in fine condition. From the Limited Edition of 350 by Lansdowne Editions in 1977, this print is barely discernable from the original lithograph.  Page size 470mm x 320mm (18.5 inches x 12.5 inches).
