The Voice of the Bush. Book by Harold C. Johnston c1945

Wonderful children's book, introducing Australian fauna - birds and animals - and the myriad of voices that collectively form "The Voice Of The Bush".

This book is the Third Impression of this popular work by The Worker Newspaper Pty. Ltd., Dunstan House, Elizabeth Street, Brisbane. (First publication was the previous year.) Despite its obvious popularity warranting reissue three times within the year, this delightly book is rarely see today. Copyright is by Enid Stewart Delalande.

The former stiff cover more flexible through use, and corners and edges less sound... though a finer testament to its wonderful lore could scarcely ere be found. (Excuse my amateur status.. haha) The cover is soiled and the central page is adrift from the staples.

Inside front page has a pen dedication "With love from the Cribb girls Xmas 1949". This book began its private ownership in Ipswich, as a gift to the May girls.

This book starts with the arrival of the White Man and the ensuing revolt by the Bush Folk. It provides a wonderful comparison between the 'city slicker' and the character of country-dwelling Australians. With prose and poetry, coloured lithographic sketches and black and white photography, it is quite the loveliest book on Australian animals and birds.
There are also 2 small clipped pages (12 x 13cm, printed one side) of Australian Native Legends: The Platypus and The Lyrebird and the Green Frog. Delightful!
