by a book

Furred Animals of Australia by Ellis Troughton, published by Angus and Robertson of Sydney and London. (1951) Fourth (revised) edition. 230 x 160mm (9 ¼ x 6 ½ inches)

Dust Jacket in thick protective plastic cover over grey clothed hardcover, with cellotape markings on endpapers. Externally slightly soiled. Internally relatively clean except for foxing to page extremities. Ink pen inscription on front pages: Hettie Wenz “Nanima”.

A zoologist and mammologist, Mr Troughton (1893-1974) was well-qualified to write this book. He was Curator of Mammals, The Australian Museum, Sydney; Honorary Secretary, Australian Fauna and Flora Conservation Committee of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science; and Member of Advisory Panel under the Fauna Protection Act of New South Wales. His easy to read guide to the mammals of Australia provides answers for many questions frequently asked about our unique marsupials, with their young held in the adult’s pouches. There are hundreds of other large and small fascinating Australian animals, running and hopping, flying and swimming - including, possums and foxes that fly, and dugongs or sea-cows that swim. This book covers over 400 species, with around half of them illustrated in 25 full page groups by Neville W. Cayley, F.R.Z.S.
